Preliminary round: First leg
Khartoum Watani (Sudan) 0 SC Villa 1
Return leg on February 27
SC Villa v Khartoum Watani
Ugandan side SC Villa returned to the continental stage in style by earning a vital win away in the CAF Confederation Cup. They defeated Sudan side Khartoum Watani 1-0 at Khartoum Stadium Saturday evening.
Midfielder Taddeo Lwanga scored the only goal to give the Villa Park-based side the advantage ahead of the return leg in two weeks' time.
The Jogoos had last represented Uganda on the continental stage in 2005 after they lost to Al-Ahly of Egypt in the CAF Champions League on a 6-0 aggregate.
But in 2010, they had qualified to part in the CAF Confederation Cup against Sudan side Khartoum in the preliminary round but later pulled out due to financial constraints.
Villa host Khartoum Watani in the return leg on February 27. If Villa wins the two legs, they will face either JKU (Zanzibar) or Gaborone (Botswana).
