Boxer Daku upbeat ahead of fight

Netherland-based Ugandan professional boxer Farouk Daku has promised to take out Hungarian Jozsef Karmony early in the World Boxing Forum (WBF) super middleweight title contest at Nakivubo stadium on Saturday.

Daku, who jetted home on Wednesday to a rousing welcome from his fans at Entebbe International Airport, says winning the fight is his ultimate goal in a bid to attaining a shot at the World Boxing Council title.

"I know that he (Karmony) is good. But I have had very good training. I do not want to disappoint my fans because my focus is a win," he said.

"So my plan is to give him an early knockout because my sight is on a WBC title. This (fight) is my judgment day," added Daku much to the delight of his ululating fans.

The Hungarian who boasts of 33 fights, 12 wins, 2 knockouts, 19 loss and 2 draws is also in town. The Daku versus Karmony will be the major highlight of the show organized by Malingumu Promotions in conjunction with Uganda Sports Promotion.

Several exciting under-cards are also lined up for the day.

Daku who beat Tanzania's Saidi Mberwa to snatch the Africa Boxing Union title in April this year will be eyeing his second title when he takes on the Hungarian.

The Ugandan prize fighter is also the current the Africa Boxing Union (ABU) middleweight champion. The Ugandan goes into the showdown with an impressive record of 30 fights, 19 wins, 9 knockouts and two draws.

The other highly-billed fight will see Uganda's Meddie ‘Kabona' Sebyala taking on Tanzania's Abraham Tamba in the East and Central Africa Boxing Federation middleweight title contest.

The undercards include a national welterweight title that pits Charles Mulindwa against Patrick Atuhairwe.

In the bantamweight category, Mudde Ntambi faces Remmy Iga while Joseph Nteza takes on Robert Ssembose in a super featherweight bout.
