Local musician arrested 'drunk walking'

The moral behind drunk driving operations is to save lives; both of the culprits and other road users including motorists and pedestrians.

And so it happened that struggling local musician Tony Lubega aka Red Banton was caught on the wrong side of the law when he was arrested by police for walking while

Banton, who was reportedly staggering in the middle of the road, was deemed a danger to himself and other road users.

The unfortunate incident happened over the weekend when he was locked up at Katwe police station for his own safety.

Red Banton was reportedly first warned to take caution and not walk in the middle of the road drunk; but he instead mocked the policemen, prompting them to arrest him for disobeying lawful orders.

Banton was arrested walking drunk from Makindye towards Kibuye in the company of other struggling musicians, but they abandoned him on realizing he had been arrested.

The singer, who was visibly blurry eyed and haggard, was once arrested by police for being idle and disorderly.

During the operation a young woman who was deemed indecently dressed was also arrested. Over 20 motorists were arrested in the drunk driving operation that was carried out over the weekend in different parts of the city and its suburbs.
