President Yoweri Museveni has commissioned the construction of Mpigi-Kanoni- road.
The president said in the first phase of constructing the road from Mpigi to Kanoni will cost government sh123b.
“Lies start spreading so early but the truth eventually overtakes it. Those who were deceiving you that we gave you empty promises about this road have now been disproved,” Museveni said amidst ululations from the area residents.
The president advised the area residents to use the road to transport their agricultural merchandize to Kampala.
He advised Ugandans to always be more preoccupied with increasing their household incomes than community development projects.
“For me I bought land along this road in Kisozi when there was no electricity and tarmacked road and created wealth there. That is what you should emulate,” Museveni said.
The ground-breaking ceremony was attended by the Chinise ambassador Zhao Yali, transport minister Eng. James Byandala, health minister Ruhakana Rugunda, trade minister Amelia Kyambadde, religious leaders, area MPs, local government leaders and other dignitaries.
Byandala said government would soon commission the construction of many other roads in various parts of the country like Kanoni-Ssembabule-Viramariya road.
“This is a clear manifestation of government resolve to develop the whole country. The operational costs and time spent on this road will be drastically reduced. The residents should use this road to fight poverty,” Byandala said.
From there, the President launched a maternity ward in Mpigi Health centre IV which had been constructed by Twezimbe Developmnt Foundation led by Amelia Kyambadde with the help of Chinese development partners.
Amelia commended Pastor Robert Kayanja who donated an ambulance to the health centre and pastor Imelda Kula Namutebi who helped in the construction of some buildings.
The health minister Ruhakana Rugunda and the president accepted a request by the Mpigi district health officer Dr. Ruth Nassanga to turn the health centre into a fully fledged hospital.
The President concluded his day with a rally in Mpigi town where he reassured Ugandans that he has resolved to channel all the money previously meant for NAADS to his soldiers to distribute seedlings to the farmers across the country to increase household incomes of Ugandans.
Using figures given by Left. Col. Gerald Kimbugwe and other soldiers who have been distributing seedlings to farmers, the president said his soldiers have done much better than NAADS used to do.
On houses for teachers and medical workers, the President said due to limited resources his government is still concentrating on building more classrooms, libraries, laboratories and health facilities before embarking on houses.
Explaining that development projects are very complex and expensive, he said his government has been majorly focusing on roads and electricity.
Various speakers including Amelia Kyambadde asked the president to stand again in the 2016 general elections.
