UDB boss Ojangole acquitted

Court has acquitted Uganda Development Bank (UDB) chief executive officer, Patricia Ojangole.

Ant- Corruption judge Lawrence Gidudu said the evidence adduced before court against Ojangole was not sufficient to convict her. She was facing charges of conflict of interest.

Ojangole, 36, was accused of influencing her recruitment process that resulted in her appointment as head of the bank on November, 30, 2012.

The Inspectorate of Government had purported that the  action amounted to a charge of conflict of interest as prescribed in section 9(1)  and (2) (a)  of  the Anti-  Corruption  Act. Judgment is scheduled for delivery on June 30.

Court assessors Annet Kasendwa and Fred Kiggundu in a joint opinion advised court to acquit Ojangole saying prosecution had failed to prove the ingredient of influence peddling.

“Circumstantial evidence needs to be corroborated by direct evidence which prosecution failed to do and this created a doubt in our minds,” stated Annet Kasendwa who read the joint opinion with that of her colleague. Fred Kiggundu.
