UGANDA will mark her debut on the international scene as the Federation of International Lacrosse championships get underway in July this year in Denver, Colorado.

Team Uganda is slated to make history as the first African country to feature at the World Lacrosse Championships.

The games which run July 10-19 will see over 40 countries battling for top honours. Team USA are the reigning champions.

The Uganda team, now undergoing training at the MUBS grounds in Nakawa, face a tough hurdle at the event.

They boast of only three years of experience in the game.

However, Team Uganda headed by American coach Tanner Scales is looking at gaining exposure at the championships.

“We want the boys to have a feel of the competition and learn from it,” he said.

The players are upbeat and have vowed to storm the latter stages of the competition.

“Our focus now is to reach the quarterfinals,” said Brian Tukire, the national team captain.

The competition schedule for the event will be announced in February or March this year.

An NGO, Fields of Growth International, in partnership with the Uganda Lacrosse Union is behind the national team’s preparation plans.
