Over 40,000 runners including Ministers, MP's and prominent civil servants and businessmen are expected to grace the 'marathon' due Sunday, August 16 in Kisoro.

The run kick-starts a number of activities also aimed at raising funds that will be used to rehabilitate the school's infrastructure.

Kayihura will compete in the 21km race while others will compete in the 12 and 5km routes in the race that will start at Mashaka and end at the Mutolere SS playgrounds.

Addressing the press at Police Headquarters, Naguru, Daniel Batekereza, an old boy and the chairperson of the organising committee said, as former students who benefited from the school, they found it fitting to do something tangible as they celebrate the jubilee.

"We sat and came up with a plan to do something tangible to help our district; the marathon is going to act as a lunch pad to various activities aimed at reviving the glory of the school," Batekereza said.

He said they hope to raise close to sh1bn from the various fundraising activities that will also include dinners, to build and rehabilitate classrooms, dormitories and also re-equip the school library.

Participants will not pay any money but according to ASP Edison Niyonshima who represented the IGP, individuals had volunteered to contribute for water, T-shirts and other amenities for the run.

"The IGP also has personal sponsors who will pay for each kilometer he runs," Niyonshima stated.

David Niyonsaba who represented Kisoro district local government said an account No.9030010821699 in the names of St. Paul Mutolere Fundraising had been open up in Stanbic bank, where contributions can be deposited.

Some of the prominent old boys of the school expected to attend include Commissioner General of Prisons Dr. Johnson Byabashaija, Minister of Justice, Constitutional Affairs, Kahinda Otafiire, MP's Henry Banyenzaki, Pius Bigirimana, Sam Bitangaro, Tress Bucyanayandi and businessmen Garuga Musinguzi and Caesar Mulenga among others.

The jubilee celebrations will be held on June 26 2016.
