JANAT Chemusto leads Uganda’s search for medals at the IAAF World Youth Championships. The competition will run from Wednesday to Sunday in Columbia.

The team leaves for the biennial show today. It is the first age group event in athletics followed by the Junior Championships and then the World Championships.

Chemusto, who won a silver medal in the 1500m and a 3000m bronze at the Africa Youth Championship, is out to go a step better in Columbia.

Chemusto, who also participated in the Youth Olympic Games last year, leads three other runners in the event where Uganda has never won a medal.

Entered in the 3000m event, Chemusto is the only girl on the team led by coach Barbara Asiimwe.

Asiimwe will also take part in a conference for coaches in charge of the youth.

The other runners on the team are Maxwell Rotich (3000m), Boniface Simokwo (2000m steeplachase) and Julius Bua (1500m).
