The protest began with traders holding placards and shouting "Twagala Drake, Twagala Drake", a Luganda phrase meaning we want talk to Drake.

Police, led by the DPC of Central Police Station, Michael Musani, came to try and calm the situation but it only spiralled out of control, an episode that forced the security operatives to fire teargas and bullets to disperse the crowd. Many of the protestors suffered injuries.
