Canon Namanya elected second Bishop of North Ankole Diocese

The Rev. Canon Stephen Namanya has been elected the Second Bishop of North Ankole Diocese. He will be consecrated and enthroned as Bishop on August 2, 2015 at Emmanuel Cathedral, Rushere

The Rev. Canon Stephen Namanya has been elected the Second Bishop of North Ankole Diocese. He will be consecrated and enthroned as Bishop on August 2, 2015 at Emmanuel Cathedral, Rushere.

 
His election was made by the House of Bishops of the Church of Uganda sitting at Kapchorwa Primary Teacher’s College, Diocese of Sebei, on April 11, 2015. He succeeds the Rt. Rev. John Muhanguzi who has served as the First Diocesan Bishop since 2003.

Canon Namanya, who was born again on March 26, 1980 has been serving as Archdeacon of Kashwa Archdeaconry as well as Chairperson of the House of Clergy for North Ankole Diocese.

He has also served as an Archdeacon in Kinoni Archdeaconry, Diocesan Secretary of North Ankole Diocese, and a member of the Provincial Assembly from North Ankole Diocese. 

Canon Namanya was commissioned as a Lay Reader in 1982, ordained a deacon in 1987, and ordained a priest in 1988.
 
The Canon has studied at Uganda Christian University, receiving first a Diploma in Theology in 1996, then a Bachelor of Divinity (Hons) in 2006, and a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership and Management in 2009.
 
He is married to Lydia Twikiriize Namanya and they have seven children.
