Katikiro Mayiga chairs his first cabinet meeting

The Katikiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga convened his first cabinet meeting to discuss how affairs of the kingdom will be managed during his term.

The Katikiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga convened his first cabinet meeting to discuss how affairs of the kingdom will be managed during his term.

The Kabaka appointed the former minister of information, Peter Mayiga  as the new Katikiro following the retirement of  Eng JB Walusimbi.

The meeting which was closed from journalists was attended by 16 cabinet ministers and four state ministers at the cabinet room at Bulange, Buganda’s administration center in Mengo, on Tuesday.

The meeting started at 2:00pm and ended at about 5:00pm. During the meeting, Mayiga also handed over appointment letters to his ministers.

The minister of information, Denis Walusimbi said several issues concerning the kingdom were discussed.

“The meeting has discussed strategies on how to run the affairs of the kingdom. It also discussed the rules and regulations governing the Lukiiko (Parliament),” he noted.

Walusimbi said they also discussed the preparations of the Kabaka’s visit to Koki County in Rakai district to launch the Masaza cup on May 25, 2013.

He also noted that the Kabaka is to hand over the Damula (a mace) as assign of authority to the newly appointed Katikiro on May 29, in Lubiri.

The Kabaka will also visit Katigondo on May 26, to mark the hundred years.
