Museveni tells youth to avoid alcohol

President Museveni has advised the youth to avoid the excessive consumption of alcohol, saying it causes poverty.

KIRUHURA - President Yoweri Museveni has advised the youth to avoid the excessive consumption of alcohol, saying alcohol is one of the major causes of poverty in families.

Museveni, accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Janet Museveni, was speaking during New Year prayers at Nshwere Church of Uganda in North Ankole Diocese, Kiruhura district.

Museveni advised the youth to fear God and work hard for a successful future.

“The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom,” he counseled.

He further advised the youth to attain education, especially in skills, to enable them engage in entrepreneurial ventures.

In his message, the President also urged parents to counsel their children on the disadvantages of early marriages that are not only detrimental to their health and future, but can also lead them into contracting deadly diseases like HIV.

In the same delivery, Museveni asked the congregation to embrace the new agriculture programme overseen by army officers, who are distributing planting and breeding materials to wananchi (citizens) throughout the country.

The President later contributed sh30m to the Church’s Savings and Credit Cooperative Organisation (SACCOS).

The First Lady, who was instrumental in the building of the Nsherenkye church, asked Christians to pray for families of those who contributed towards its construction.

She called on Christians to work hard for the development of their families.

The acting dean of Nsherenkye Archdeaconry, the Rev. Emmanuel Twesigye Katamunanwire, appealed to Ugandans to abandon their evil deeds of the past year and reform in the New Year in order to develop the country.

He thanked the President and the First Lady for finding time to attend prayers with them.
