Gasigwa, the 2009 and 2013 champion had every reason to stay an emphatic celebration having conquered Duncan Mugabe in the semifinals that also saw defending champion David Oringa ejected by Dieu-Donne Habyambere at Kampala Club on Friday.

Gasigwa’s tournament was actually won in the semifinal and the final against Habyambere was a formality. Gasigwa made light work of his compatriot 6-4, 6-1 in about one hour as home crowd were left with no choice but cheer an all-Rwanda final.

The previous time a Uganda did not feature in the final, Gasigwa beat Kenyan Francis Rugoi to claim his maiden Uganda Open at Lugogo.
