Voters are the most important people for any political party. They are the resource upon which the success of the party depends. When thinking about the importance of voters, it is useful to remember the following points:

1. Repeat party is the backbone of attraction. It helps to provide voters and certainty for the party.

2. Parties are dependent upon their voters. If they do not develop voter loyalty and satisfaction, they could lose them.
3. Without voters the party would not exist.

4. The purpose of the party is to fulfill the needs of the voters.

5. The voter makes it possible to achieve part aims.

Customer satisfaction

Voter satisfaction is at the heart of marketing the party process. One estimate is that it costs five times as much to attract new voters as it does to keep an existing one. The relationship between the voter and the party is, therefore, an important one.
Building voter relationships can be seen as moving up a ladder. At the top rung of the ladder are your loyal voters (advocates).

The ladder consists of four main rungs (with 4 being the highest):
4 - Advocates
3 - Regular voters
2 – Occasional voters
1 - One-off voters

The extent to which voters move up the ladder depends on how well they are treated by the party. Well focused party agents and attention to individual detail, is likely to encourage voters to move up the ladder.
