KIREKA, Kampala - Police has arrested Bubulo West Member of Parliament, Kipoi Tonny Nsubuga over alleged recruitment of rebels.

Kipoi was arrested Sunday evening at around 10:30pm in Matimuku Guest House, Njala Village, Fortportal, Kabarole district, while he was holding a meeting with some Ugandan security officers and Congolese rebel officers, according to a Police statement.

Kipoi is being detained at Police Special Investigations Unit in Kireka for questioning.

The New Vision has learnt that Kipoi and some elements in his group had plans to forcefully overthrow the Government.

“We have strong evidence he (Kipoi) was trying to recruit and he was mainly targeting the army,” a security source said.

“The security have since got his cellular phone print outs which indicate that he made and also received calls from abroad,” the source added.

In June this year, Interpol was reportedly asked to investigate Kipoi over suspected drug trafficking. This followed the arrest of Ugandan Moses Shaban Khuju in Brazil with 80 plastic capsules containing 1.19 kg of cocaine.
