ACTING Chief Justice Steven Kavuma has encouraged judicial officers to always actively participate in sports activities so as to keep themselves bodily fit and mentally more alert.

“It is true, judicial officers are always very busy, but, as human beings, we must create time for our families and recreation which we also need to keep physically fit by actively participating in regular sports activities. Sports activities would bring us together and interact more regularly and discuss about different issues that benefit and affect us in our day today work than waiting for annual general meetings,” Kavuma urged.

The chief law lord was on Saturday handing over trophies to captains of football and netball teams of the judicial officers who participated in the judicial officers’ games that concluded their one-day annual general meeting held at Colline Hotel – Mukono over the weekend.

The games that were held at Mukono High School campus also featured judicial officers and their children taking part in sprint races.

Accompanied by High Court judge, Duncan Gaswaga, Justice Kavuma declared that the sports events for judicial officers should be an annual event to be held at the end of their annual AGMs.

Gulu High Court judge, Margaret Mutonyi captained Red team and scored 2 of the 4 goals to make for a draw with Yellow which was captained by Flavia Nabakooza, Chief Magistrate Iganga.

Makindye grade one magistrate,  George Watekere  and Ibanda-Kiruhura Chief Magistrate Godfrey kaweesa led Blue football team that beat Yellow football team 2-0 captained by Martins Kirya, GI Kabale.

Kavuma hailed the judicial officers who travelled with their children and for developing the idea of involving them, asserting that as teaching and education begin at home, the children needed to know that their parents were not only judges, registrars and magistrates, but were also capable of doing some sports that they also needed for physical fitness and mental alert.
