When President Museveni and his wife Janet renewed their marriage vows last year, the feeling was that many missed out.

KAMPALA - It is edifying to see a leader publicly renew his marriage vows.

When President Museveni and his wife Janet renewed their marriage vows at Nshwere Church Uganda in Kiruhura district, last year the feeling (at least according to comedian Mendo) was that many people missed out on the juicy bits.

How about re-enact the whole ceremony?

Museveni’s protégé, Mendo, took it a notch higher last weekend when he, Veronica Tindichebwa (as Janet Museveni), Gerald Rutaro (as the First Son Muhoozi Kainerugaba) re-lived the function at an exclusive party held at Mbuya’s Rivonia suites.

As part of plans to announce the grand opening of a new wing for wedding receptions and conferences, the proprietors of the 600-capacity wedding and conference facility, chose to go beyond the usual invites and cocktail arrangement.  They threw an actual wedding, complete with the celebrity bride and groom, audience, food, cake and clergy.

The only anomaly was that it wasn’t in the script that the groom had to take the bride for honeymoon after bidding their guests goodbye.

Mendo and company pulled it off spectacularly, you only wondered why NBS TV’s Agatha Loswash, (supposed to play First Daughter Natasha), developed cold feet, when her chance to ascend the stage on a mountain of hype and swagger manifested.

Even when Tindi tickled the crowd in the laid-back calculated manner in which she articulated her words, reminiscent of the First Lady, she goofed when she asked for wine at the High Table.

Mendo was however cognizant of his teetotal ways – when a bottle of red wine was presented during the cutting of the cake, he feigned anger and advised it should be delivered to Governor Emmanuel Mutebile!

Time to dance, and their choice of song, local musician Eddie Kenzo’s Sitya Loss, followed by a youthful dance regimen, left many in stitches. The crowd unilaterally begged the couple not to kiss, as Mendo made his move. Oh la la!

Cathy Tibeingana, the proprietor, said the new venue just above Nakawa courts, is idyllic and user-friendly, it saves on the hustle for those wedding because, when one books with them, all they need to spend on is decoration.
