The Indian Association in Uganda is set to take at least 20 heart patients for surgery in India this year, according to an official.

Sham Rao the association board of Trustee member said verification of the 20 beneficiaries was on going.

He was speaking during a blood donation drive organized by the Karnataka Sangha community that was held at the Norvic Hospital in Buganda road on Sunday.

He said the focus will be on children aged below 12 years. “Last year we took 14, which means the number is increasing each year,” he said.

The community chairman Sunil Kumar said they were targeting over 200 units of blood to aid those in need of blood.

“Our campaign is to collect enough blood and donate to the needy. Apart from this we are also raising funds to support heat patients surgery in India this year,” said Sunil.

Last year the community did a similar drive and collected 62 units of blood that was handed over to the Nakasero Blood Bank.
