Eryck Mutebi, aka Erycom, is a Ugandan DJ that has spent eight years in the Ugandan music industry. We caught up with him for a chat.

Eryck Mutebi, popularly known as Erycom, is a Ugandan Deejay (DJ) that has spent eight years in the Ugandan music industry and has established himself as one of the best in the game. Recently, New Vision’s GLORIAS MUSIIME caught up with the 25-year-old DJ and settled down for a chat.

Q: It’s been a while since I last heard from you, what have you been up to?

[Sighs heavily]. I am on a music tour, traveling through nine countries around the world.

Music tour? What exactly are you doing?

It is an African music tour and I am on a quest to promote African music in the countries I am touring. I am entertaining my fans all over because they love it. The moment I enter a country, my fellow DJs give me space to do my thing.

Which countries have you visited so far in your career?

Altogether, I have been to 24 countries so far. I started my recent global trip on June 20 this year, and I have been in Norway, Russia, South Africa, Rwanda, United Arab Emirates (Dubai). Other countries that are a part of this tour are Turkey, Egypt, Sudan, France and USA. I will travel to the US with Desire Luzinda.

Desire? Out of all musicians, why her?

It was just a choice. However, I am not in a relationship with her because I have a fiancé.

Being a widely traveled person, how do you manage your relationship?

My fiancé is an understanding and a patient woman. That’s why I try my best to have time for her when I am in the country (Uganda).

You definitely must draw attention from pretty women on your tours. How do you cope?

I am a human of course I do, but as a faithful man who chose to have one girlfriend, I control my feelings and let my eyes enjoy.

But popular belief suggests that most celebrities never rely on one woman. Is it true?

I do not really have a clear comment but I think everyone to be called a man should not wait to be disappointed. You should be ready for anything in order to move on. It’s somehow true.

What gets you all pissed off in a relationship?

Being lied to, and dealing with lies in an affair. It infuriates me being lied to because, personally, I don’t lie. So I don’t expect my partner to lie to me.

I noticed you have more female company than males. Don’t you sometimes fall for them?

Some of them are my clients while others are just friends with no strings attached. Besides, I do not fall for my clients.

For how long have you been a professional DJ?

I started off in 2007. I did my first international tour two years along the way, in 2009, along with Jose Chameleon. I am always on the move every time an opportunity in the form of a deal comes my way.

Do you sing as well?

No, I’m not a musician.
