FDC candidate wins Kyambogo guild polls

FREDRICK Etyang, 26, of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party on Tuesday won the Kyambogo University guild presidency.

FREDRICK Etyang, 26, of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party on Tuesday won the Kyambogo University guild presidency.

The second-year student of economics and statistics was declared winner at 11:30pm by the chairperson of the university’s electoral commission, Stella Kirungi.

Etyang polled 1,409 votes. His closest opponent was Moses Bogere of the Peoples Development Party with 1,126 votes.

An independent candidate, Bruhan Byaruhanga, followed with 965. DP’s Peter Okello polled 870 votes, while Ronald Kiwuwa of the Social Democratic Party had 677 votes.

NRM’s Charles Otim had 338 votes, followed by Ndugu Omongo of the Uganda Federal Alliance, with 313 votes. Last was Ivan Naluti of the People’s Progressive Party with 148 votes.

Etyang said: “I expected to win because I have served as speaker and co-ordinator, so the students trust me.”
