CRANES striker Geoffrey Sserunkuuma will shoulder South African club Bidvest Wits’ attacking responsibilities next season after agreeing a two-year deal with the club.

CRANES striker Geoffrey Sserunkuuma will shoulder South African club Bidvest Wits’ attacking responsibilities next season after agreeing a two-year deal with the club.
Sserunkuuma was initially dumped by Bloemfontein Celtic last season, before joining Vasco da Gama and helping them gain promotion to the Premier league. Bidvest coach Roger de Sa confirmed that the Ugandan international would lead the club’s attack next season.
“Geoffrey has had a wonderful season with Vasco da Gama and scored a number of times for them. With him, we will not need any other striker,†Roger stressed.
When Sserunkuuma joined Vasco Da Gama at the start of last season on loan from Bloemfontein Celtic, few at the club believed in his languid style of play. But Sserunkuuma defied his critics with a string of either crucial assists or goals that marginally contributed to Vasco’s promotion from South Africa’s First Division League that ended last week.
The former KCC striker and goalkeeper Posnet Omony proved more than a bargain for Cape Townbased Vasco Da Gama. Sserunkuuma becomes the second Ugandan at Bidvest after defender Timothy Batabaire.
He is among strikers including Geoffrey Massa, Brian Umony, Eugene Ssepuuya, Emma Okwi and Robert Ssentongo that will be competing for Cranes attacking positions when the 2012 Nations Cup qualifiers start in September.
