‘ONCE bitten, twice shy’, so goes the saying. Having learnt from the recent dismissal of the national U-17 team from the Africa Youth Championships, FUFA has moved fast to scrutinise the age of the U-20 squad ahead of the first round first leg of the continental championship against Egypt in Cairo on Sunday.

The team will then take part in the CECAFA championship in Eritrea two weeks later.

Early this month, continental soccer body, CAF, threw out Uganda from the U-17 championship after Zambia petitioned over an over-age player.

Consequently, FUFA has released first choice goalkeeper Allan Owiny, Jacob Otunga, Moses Feni, Asuman Alishe, Boban Zirintusa, Eric Obua and Omar Ngobi from the U-20 squad because their true age could not be ascertained.

But there is some relief after midfielder Crizestom Ntambi was recalled to the team after earlier being thrown out for indiscipline. He was one of three, who absconded from the camp to travel with Express FC to Sudan.

Anyau said that the player was allowed back after he submitted a written apology to FUFA saying that he had been misled by Express officials.
