THE First Lady and Karamoja affairs state minister Janet Museveni has said Karamoja needs a spiritual re-awakening to remove obstacles to the development of the region
Closing a Christian retreat in Moroto recently, she observed that Karamoja, needed the Holy Spirit to build the right foundation to transform the region.
“We will continue to build schools and hospitals, dig dams and improve food security in an effort to uplift the quality of life of the Karimojong, but these are human works which should never precede the work of God,†Mrs. Museveni said, quoting Psalms 127:1.
The Christian Peace and Reconciliation Retreat, held at St. Phillip’s Cathedral Moroto, brought together pilgrims from the four major regional tribes, the Pokot, Karimojong, Turkana and Sabiny, under the POKATUSA umbrella. The clergy and a team from the Pilgrim Centre for Reconciliation in the US also attended.
POKATUSA is a Christian ministering group started over 10 years ago. It meets every year with the Rev. Rouner from the Pilgrim Centre for Reconciliation to pray for forgiveness and reconciliation among former warriors, who later preach these virtues in their communities.
Mrs. Museveni thanked Rouner, his wife Molly and their team for coming to Karamoja to minister reconciliation.
She commended the pastors from churches in Kampala, who have been praying for peace in Karamoja.
