NAKASONGOLA residents are all smiles after the reconstruction of the Wabigalo-Nakasongola-Sasira road, which connects the district headquarters to the Kampala-Gulu highway, kicked off.
The 21-kilometre road that has been in a bad state, with giant potholes, also connects to Nakasongola Airbase.
The reconstruction work is being undertaken by Energo Projekt at a cost of $6m (about sh13.8b).
The Nakasongola LC1 chairman, Robert Wasswa and James Wandira, the LC5 chairman, said motorists and taxis operating on the Kampala-Gulu highway had been shunning Nakasongola town due to the poor condition of the road.
“Travelling to Kampala will now be easier,†they said.
The Luweero district Uganda National Roads Authority station manager, Robert Lomwe, said the road has a new design to allow longevity. The work will involve reconstructing the whole sub-base and surface. The
Energo projekt also rehabilitated the 166km Kampala-Kafu road and is constructing the 44km Gayaza-Ziroobwe road.
