Dr Ruhakana Rugunda, the water, lands and environment minister has been elected President of the Governing Council of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

Dr Ruhakana Rugunda, the water, lands and environment minister has been elected President of the Governing Council of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
He was elected on Monday at the opening the 22nd session of the UNEP Governing Council /Global Ministerial Environment Forum in Nairobi.
Rugunda, who is also President of the African Ministerial Conference on the environment, takes over from David Anderson of Canada.
during his acceptance speech, Rugunda acknowledged the tremendous work done by his predecessor and indicated his intention to strengthen what had been achieved.
