KYAMBOGO University has established a creative and performing arts centre with a view to honing studenttalents.

The idea behind the centre is to break the notion that creative arts are for those who have read literature or music dance and drama, said Emmanuel Kalula the co-ordinator.

“We have very talented students who are not necessarily artists. The centre acts as a meeting point for nurturing creative excellence,” he said.

Activities include martial arts like karate, music, dance and drama, acrobatics, creative writing, poem recitations, fashion and fabrics exhibitions.

“Some students have produced their own songs and nobody knew about it until they came to the centre. Some of these songs are bow being marketed. We believe that through this centre students will stand a chance to live in this world meaningfully. It is in line with raising a cadre of job creators, Kalule explained.

The co-ordinator disclosed that Kyambogo University had established links with Kenyatta University, which has a similar centre. Kalula said membership is open to both students and staff at the university.
