The House of Bishops has granted the former bishop of North Mbale Diocese, Nathan Muwombi (above), the status of an ordinary Christian, reports Joseph Wanzusi.
The tradition has been that retired bishops maintain their status.
The Dean of the Church, Dr. Nicodemus Okille, made the disclosure while closing a workshop for stakeholders in the North Mbale Diocese at Simu Corner Conference Centre in Sironko district.
Muwombi resigned after he separated with his wife a few months ago.
The bishop condemned cliques, rumour-mongering and divisions which have rocked the diocese, saying they were instigated by section of the clergy.
There was a rebellion by Christians before the bishop’s domestic troubles.
Okille said it had been found that apart from family problems, Muwombi, who became the second bishop of the diocese, had faced rebellion from a section of the clergy and Christians.
Muwombi regretted the disunity in the diocese and asked for forgiveness.
Quoting from St. Paul’s letter to Timothy, Muwombi said the family problems he faced had prompted him to step down.
