People who get a good night’s sleep have a better immune system than those with sleep problems, says researchers

Munich –– People who get a good night’s sleep have a better immune system than those with sleep problems, says German researchers.

Luebeck researchers studied patients who had received a hepatitis-A vaccinations. After four weeks, those patients who slept well had developed twice as many anti-bodies in their blood system than those who had sleeping problems. Researchers drew their conclusion.

They said people who sleep badly have a much more lethargic reaction in the battle against viruses and so are less protected against infections, Aerztliche Praxis said.

One possible explanation is that during sleep, the human body produces prolactin and other growth hormones which bolster the immune system’s response to viruses.
