MANAFWA district council has approved the creation of Namisindwa district out of Bubulo East county.

The councillors said the new district would enhance service delivery and create new employment opportunities for the youth.

The district vice-chairman, Peter Wabuya, said there had been inequitable allocation of resources between the two counties of Bubulo East and Bubulo West, saying this had retarded Bubulo East’s economic progress.

“Whereas Bubulo West has 138 schools, Bubulo East has only 80. Since Bubulo East is hilly, the roads in the county are eroded every rainy season, which requires constant maintenance. This has been lacking,” Wabuya said.

Manafwa, which was curved out of Mbale district in 2005, has a population of 315,000 people.

About 177,000 of these are in Bubulo East.
The proposed Namisindwa district will cover the sub-counties of Tsehululu, Bumbo, Namabya, Bumoni, Bubutu, Bwabwala, Magale and Lwakakha town councils.
The district headquarters will be in Bupoto sub-county.

Leaders from Bubulo East previously disagreed over the location of the district headquarters.
Some of them wanted the headquarters to be in Magale.

“We agreed on Bupoto because Magale had limited land for future expansion,” said John Musamali, the LC4 chairman of Bubulo county.
