WAKISO - Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) should help poor people start income- generating activities. Emmanuel Tumwine Ssekitoleko, the Wakiso district secretary for finance, asked NGOs to teach people skills that can help them fight poverty.

“When you are evaluating your work, put emphasis on income-generating activities and not just at the objectives of your group,” Ssekitoleko said while handing over certificates to people who had completed self-help training seminars at the district headquarters recently.

He said although the district has no budget for assisting NGOs, they (the district) would find ways of assisting them.

The training was carried out by Tripartite Training Programme. Participants were drawn from various community development groups in the district.
