EDITOR—I now see the wisdom of sticking to the devil you know rather than the angel you don’t. A fortnight ago, I ignored ‘old’ names in the bus service and entrusted my life with Alliaz Tours, a new company. I was travelling to Mbarara.

Their mini-coach looked comfortable inside but the ride was the opposite. The driver of the blue bus, UAH 040 M, would occasionally ignore humps and literally fly over them!

This caused the passengers unnecessary jerking and others almost hit their heads on the roof. At one such jerk on Masaka road, while reading a newspaper, I bruised my right hand elbow after hitting against the bus’s bodywork and my camera’s screen cracked.

I was shocked to discover Alliaz Tours has no offices at the bus terminal! When I called the “In case of bad driving” number (0752 878 847), the voice at the end of the receiver told me the number was not on the Celtel network!
