JUSTICE John Patrick Tabaro of the High Court has urged researchers to ensure sustainability of the county’s environment when applying their findings. Tabaro was speaking at the sixth and seventh graduation ceremonies for the Centre for Basic Research, at the Kololo campus in Kampala.
Sixty-four graduands received certificates with Liino Bukenya of the Uganda Martyrs University, Nkozi, emerging the best student.
“The environment is being degraded because rich countries have applied their findings in pursuit of profits without caring to protect the environment,†Tabaro said.
The judge said research skills are meant to enhance and provide knowledge to help researchers promote development.
He called on the graduates to avoid engaging in immoral activities and practicing discrimination.
Tabaro advised the graduands to focus on conflict prevention, resolution and food security.
Dr. Simon Rutabajuuka, the centre’s executive director, asked the Government to support the institution.
