The Makerere University Council is seeking a financial management company to carry out a special audit into the management of its funds. The council chairman, Mathew Rukikaire, yesterday said this was one of the ways to resolve the problems at the troubled institution.

Annually, Makerere generates about sh50b from private students and the Government gives it over sh30b.“We are in the process of identifying an independent financial consulting firm to carry out an audit into the finances of the university as recommended by the Visitation Committee report,” he said.

This comes a day after the lecturers called off a 10-day strike over “mismanagement of funds”
