THE Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces, Gen. Yoweri Museveni, has urged leaders of the UPDF to enforce strict discipline among soldiers.

Passing out officers who completed training in air defence, tank and commando courses, Museveni advised army commanders to regularly inspect soldiers under their command.

“You should have discipline so that you can live longer and make your contribution to the maximum,” he told soldiers on Wednesday.

This was during a function at the Air Defence Division and the Motorised Infantry Brigade headquarters in Nakasongola district.

The general urged graduands to avoid bad habits like smoking, over drinking and contracting the deadly HIV/AIDS pandemic.

“We shall be wasting time if we train you and you fall sick. Take it as part of fighting to guard your health. The army needs healthy soldiers,” he added.
Museveni congratulated the graduands upon completing their courses, adding that he was impressed by the accuracy of the military equipment.

He encouraged them to take care of their weapons through regular cleaning. “A soldier must look after his weapon very diligently,”Museveni said.
He commended the commando unit for a job well done.

The Deputy Chief of Defence Forces, Lt. Gen. Ivan Koreta, the Commander of the Land Forces, Lt. Gen. Katumba Wamala, and other senior army officers, attended the event.
