UGANDA Clays (UCL) new plant in Kamonkoli near Mbale town is set to commence production by June.
“All the machines have been delivered. What needs to be done is electrical fitting. We are about to switch on and production will go online in two months time,†John Senfuma, the chairman said.
The sh20b plant is expected to produce 300,000 tonnes of tiles annually. This should boost production to meet the rising demand from the booming construction industry.
The Kajjansi factory produces 50,000 tonnes per annum, meeting only a third of the market demand.
“The demand for our products in Uganda is high. This demand is also affected by the shortage. We have estimated that the demand is three times what we produce in terms of tonnage,†said John Wafula, the chief executive officer.
