BIG is big so the latest adage from Bebe Cool goes. Well, was his Omunene album launch at Hotel Africana’s Commonwealth People’s Space worth it?

Although for a man of his stature he deserved a bigger crowd, one can also argue that performance is not about crowds. Entertaining one’s fans is what matters and Cool did more than entertain. At the show’s end he applauded his fans on bent knee for their loyalty.

It was a tough decision for the fans torn between watching Jamaica’s Mr. Vegas and a jazz concert. But Cool has a way of thrilling his fans. His surprise lay in “showering” the stage with Kenyan artistes whose performances were equally exciting.

Wahu and Nazizi moved the crowd as did local acts Kid Fox, Obsessions, Cindy Tikitah, The Gombyas and Fina Mugerwa. Rasta Rob, Chizzo and Shanks Gumaras formerly Vivi D, also made a cameo.

Cool, clad in the Nelson Mandela tribute jail overall he wore at the London concert in June, turned People’s Space into a big party. His performance and interaction with the crowd did it for him.

Singing old and new tunes, he moved the crowd and avoided the CD auctioning fad. Cool also benefited from Irish TV (RTE) crew, who were filming Ugandan celebrities. They had previously been to his house and now wanted to see him perform. It was a worthwhile show for the man leading the 2008 PAM nominations with eight nods.
