A SENIOR educationist has called for the introduction of moral education into the education curriculum.
Speaking at the launch of his tribute book at the National Theatre on Thursday, Prof. William Ssenteza Kajubi attributed the socio-economic and political tragedies to the disintegration of human values.
“We have put emphasis on formal education at the expense of character formation of students. We must develop linkages between formal education and the education of life,†he said.
“When students go to university with the aim of getting degrees, the country risks having graduates that lack practical knowledge and discipline.â€
Prof. John Chrysostem Ssekamwa, who wrote the book, said Kajubi’s method of teaching using quotes was effective and enjoyable.
“I first met Prof. Kajubi in the 60s when I joined the Makerere University School of Education as a student. His teaching methods were unique and inspiring. He was an innovative teacher of teachers, and a model teacher.â€
The chief guest, Dr. Theresa Mbiire, hailed Prof. Kajubi for his contribution to the development of education and launched the book with a cash donation of sh500,000.
