THE High Court sitting in Tororo has sentenced a man to 17 years imprisonment for killing his wife. Court heard that Sadic Wejuli killed Florence Namuli and later buried her body in a pit latrine. The incident took place in their home on July 18, at Buhehe, Busia district.

Justice John Bosco Katutsi said: “When you cruelly killed your wife and mother of your two children, your action was no different from the character of a beast.

“As if that was not enough, you also denied your wife a descent burial and instead opted to hastily hurl her body in a pit latrine, burying her hastily and singly as if she was an out cast.”

Before passing the sentence, Katutsi pointed out that the accused person was dangerous to society and ought to stay under incarceration for a lengthy period of time, thus the 17 years.

Prosecution led by Catherine Namakoye said Wejuli clobbered his wife with a blunt object, killing her instantly. This had been established by a pathologist when the body was exhumed from the latrine and subjected to a post-mortem. In his report, the pathologist indicated that the victim’s right-hand side ribs were fractured. Her scalp, too, was fractured.

In his un-sworn defense, Wejuli denied killing his wife, saying he was shocked to learn that she was buried in a pit latrine in their compound. But during the trial his uncle, Muwonge, told court that he had advised the accused person to report to the Police when he told him that he had killed his wife.
