THE British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has shot a documentary of a 12-year-old Ugandan girl living with HIV/AIDS.

Titled ‘A Survivors Guide’, the 30-minute documentary is about the life of Annabella Asasira from Kabale district and how she is coping with HIV in a rural setting.

Commissioned by the elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, the documentary shows how ARVs have improved Asasira’s life.

The foundation’s country director, William Salmond, said 250 million people in Europe, China and India watched the documentary’s premier on BBC Television last year. The US Congress also watched it.

“A year ago, Annabella, her mum and her dad were dying of AIDS. Now she is celebrating life. AIDS, previously a shameful disease, is no longer a death sentence,” said Richard Wilson, the narrator.
