The police in Masaka town on Wednesday fired in the air while chasing two suspected conmen who had threaten to arrest bukomansimbi parliamentary candidate Tomusange Kayinja.
Kayinja, who is also the CBS Masaka correspondent, had reported to the regional CID officer, Dison Onyigi, a day before about men who referred to themselves as Police officers from the elections squad.
The men demanded for $2,000 not to arrest Kayinja whose academic papers are being investigated by the National Election’s Squad.
The men reportedly sent threatening messages on Kayinja’s phone to fulfil their demands.
Onyigi identified the suspects as Zebron Twinomugisha and Ssalongo Gonzaga  Ssembatya. The third suspect fled.
