SIR — Transport in upcountry towns is a nightmare. For example, travelling from Jinja via Budondo is quite a task. Police officers at Ivunamba police post look on as taxis carry four people in the driver’s cabin.

Transport fares are not only high but the vehicles are also in poor condition. The drivers drive at break-neck speed while the conductors are bad-mannered.

UTODA and other authorities should extend their responsibility even to upcountry locations to clamp down on this dangerous state of affairs. In many other places upcountry it is normal to carry some passengers in car boots!
