SIR— Who is responsible for monitoring the projects funded by the Word Bank’s local government development programmes (LGDP)?
It is shocking that some deep-gullied roads like Kisalosalo-Kyebando road in Kawempe division has got a signpost in front of the Kisalosalo LCI chairman of a completed project using LGDP funds.
However, there was nothing done to repair this road. If there are responsible officers, let them go to the sight immediately and see for themselves. Putting up a signpost means the project was completed and would also mean that money was spent. So who ensures that LGDP funds don’t end up in the pockets of local councillors and division authorities? This may be one example but there is a lot of shoddy work on other
projects.
I think there is a loophole somewhere. Please, use this as an example to others because taxpayers in the World Bank membership are helping us while the money is embezzled. Ugandans be on the watch-out on the 25%, where it goes.
