THERE is said to be a thin line between love and hate, sanity and madness. Kasuka Mulefu, a 44-year-old peasant, seemed to have crossed both, reports Raymond Baguma.

Residents of Nyabweya, Ruteete sub-county, Kabarole district were shocked into action when Mulefu ran amok and slaughtered his wife and son with a machete.

Mulefu had earlier quarreled with his wife, Jacqueline Kwendera and left. On Monday he returned home and hacked his beloved to death.

Not contented, he spread his retribution to his mother-in-law's home in the same village, where he beheaded his eight-months-old son, Arinaitwe.

Elivaidi Bahumura, his mother-in-law, tried to shield the child and he chopped off her arm.

At this point, irate residents attacked Mulefu and stoned him to death, leaving the mystery of his madness unsolved.
