THE Bishop of Ankole Diocese, the Rt. Rev. Erisha Kyamugambi, on Saturday issued a stern warning to students of Bishop Stuart University in Mbarara district against involving themselves in strikes.
“Every student must display discipline. Problems can only be sorted out in a peaceful manner because strikes are evil,” he said.
The student Guild Council had called for a strike on Friday following news that the university deputy vice-chancellor, Dr. Emmanuel Karooro, had been fired and his post scrapped off the job list.
Students said Karooro had been fundamental in guiding them and they did not want to lose him.
They claimed Karooro had been maliced because he received a PhD last month, which hurt some lecturers and top governing officials.
Kyamugambi told the angry students that Karooro had not been fired but the university was undergoing a restructuring process.
