By Davis WeddiFormer justice minister Mayanja Nkangi faces arrest for failing to pay over sh20m for the cement he obtained from the East African Portland Cement Company Limited (EAPCCL).This comes in the wake of the commercial court consent order that became effective on March 28. Nkangi reportedly defaulted in paying the first installment as agreed. The plaintiff’s lawyer, Patrick Barugahare, yesterday described Nkangi as, “a fraudster who had gone to his clients and took cement worth over sh30m, paid them in checks that bounced and has now failed to meet his promise to pay up the whole amount.”Barugahare told the New Vision that, “We intend to extract a decree from the commercial court and an arrest warrant for Nkangi.”“We are also likely to petition for him to be declared bankrupt,” he added. The consent order signed by Justice James Ogoola indicates that Nkangi agreed to pay sh20m to EAPCCL.Ends
