By Josephine MaserukaPresident Yoweri Museveni has urged the Baganda to allow investors to utilise their vast land as a way to create more jobs.Museveni also appealed to Mengo officials to co-operate with the central government for faster development of the region and the country at large.Museveni’s advice was contained in a speech read by the second deputy Prime Minister, Brig. Moses Ali, at the celebrations to mark the ninth anniversary of the Kabaka’s coronation at Mengo palace on Saturday.Katikkiro Joseph Ssemwogerere appealed to the Government and members of parliament to revisit the ‘unfair Land Act of 1998’ which he said did not include Buganda’s interests.“We do not want to be considered unappreciative. we shall not use force to get back ebyaffe but we shall continue to demand what we cherish such as a federal system of governance, a fair Land Act and the sh900m balance for the completion of Twekobe, Kabaka Mutebi’s official house in Mengo palace,” Ssemwogerere said to a deafening applause from the large crowd. He said the Baganda were happy with government’s decision to return the sazza and gombolola headquarter units. “However the Government and MPs should ensure that the three-year moratorium ending December 2005, is reduced and all the land that belonged to the sazza and gombolola headquarters is returned.Ssemwogerere urged local councils to make by-laws that will prevent the youth from being idle, drunkards and drug addicts.Kabaka Ronald Mutebi urged traditional leaders in Buganda to instill in the youth, a culture of responsibility and love of their origins because they are the future leaders. “Let it be written in our history that my reign was the reign of the youth,” he said.Mutebi, dressed in full regalia, inspected the crowd that included ministers, judges, MPs, religious and cultura leaders.Ends
