Museveni meets envoys
KAMPALA — President Yoweri Museveni has said northern Uganda is now much more peaceful since the UPDF launched an offensive against the LRA rebels. He was meeting military attaches, Lt. Col. Richard Orth (US), Lt. Col. Christopher Wilton (UK), Col. Christian Ramade (France) and Col. Gradmir Kozlove (Russia), in Gulu. A statement from his press secretary, Mary Okurut, said defence PS Gabindadde Musoke also attended.

Preacher inmate freed
KAMPALA — A convicted Pakistani drug-trafficker yesterday preached his way out of prison at the Buganda road court. Mohammed Arif was found guilty of being in possession of heroin worth sh246m. He was freed after the court ruled that the 11 months he had spent on remand was a enough punishment. This was after he preached about showing mercy to others in the month of Ramadhan.

Kayunga LC5 loser testifies
JINJA — A petitioner contesting the results of Kayunga district LC5 seat yesterday told the high court that voting did not take place at one of the polling stations which had 348 registered voters. Serundi Mulondo, who lost the seat to Eng. Steven Dagada, said the Electoral commission did not deliver election materials to Kitatya B polling station. He said this denied the residents a chance to vote.
