MBARARA municipality mayor-elect Wilson Tumwine has said he has designed a 10-year programme to expand Mbarara town by a radius of seven miles from the, reports Ebenezer Bifubyeka. “Makenke Barracks next to Mbarara Coca-Cola plant and all the trading centres around Mbarara town will be inside Mbarara town,” he said. Tumwine said this on Sunday during the handing over of a sh4m a loan to the district local administration, at Pelikan Hotel in Mbarara. The money is a contribution to the payment for a hectare of land worth sh7m for Mbarara small-scale industrialists. The land is located at Makenke on Mbarara-Masaka Highway. Tumwine said Ugandans have got nothing from the professors of Gatsby Department at Makerere University who have never given any assistance to small-scale industrialists. “I give credit to Uganda Small-Scale industries Association because it offers free industrial training through fabrication workshops and seminars,” he said. Tumwine urged the small-scale industrialists to stop competing with hatred but instead ally and formulate an association to expand and create employment for residents, hence eradicating poverty. The general manager for the Kampala-based Uganda Gatsby Trust, Dr. Joseph Byaruhanga, thanked Mbarara small-scale industrialists for contributing sh4.1m for buying industrial land from the district.
