The newly introduced one-litre Coca-Cola bottle promotion earned a wife a severe beating when her husband learned of a missing crate of soda empties.
last week, Coca-Cola launched a promotion around town. A one-litre bottle of coke was offered to anyone who raised six empty bottles of 300mls.
Many people rushed to collect the required bottles so as to have the soda. Among them was Eva nasakka, wife to a container shopkeeper near Wandegeya mosque.
When the news got to her, she immediately dispatched a boda-boda man with a crate of empty bottles towards Buganda road. The man returned with four full bottles of the one-litre soda.
Nassaka’s woes began when her husband returned later from shopping to find the big coke bottles in the fridge. Inquires about the presence of the big bottles only produced excitement as the wife, who thought she had brokered a deal, narrated the exchange deal with the promo guys.
She added that it was also a step to gathering one-litre bottles.
“Mukazi gwe onjagaza ki? (what is it you want with me?) the husband growled. Before she could recover, he had landed a heavy slap on her, accusing her of conspiring to sabotage his business. He did not understand the rationale of four one-litre bottles being exchanged for 24 300m bottles including a crate.
She yelled and a crowd that gathered around stopped him from inflicting more harm.
After listening to the story, they instead sided with the wife, saying that what she had done was innovative, since and empty bottle of the one-litre soda costs sh400. What she did was worthwhile. The man saw the point, but it was too late.
