 Uganda fined $2,000 for Inter Milan jersey By Peter Ekarot and Agencies THE Confederation of African Football (CAF) has fined Uganda $2,000 (sh3.5m) for wearing an Inter-Milan strip twice during last year's CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup in Kampala. Victorious Cranes played in the jersey used by the Italian Serie A giants emblazoned Pirelli after the tyre firm that sponsors Inter Milan. FUFA bought the yellow and black jersey for only sh300,000 according to assistant treasurer Eddie Sembatya who handled the purchases in Kampala. "CAF communicated to us about the fine. We are aware and we shall look for the money to pay them," said Sembatya. CAF took the decision in line with FIFA rules that do not allow national teams to wear sponsors logos. CECAFA chairman Farah Addo is also vice president of the continental body. FIFA president Sepp Blatter on December 11, 2000 said: "In my opinion, when we play the national anthems to identify the pride of a national team before a match, such a team should not wear adverts on their shirts." FUFA secretary Godfrey Kisekka said during CECAFA cup that he was not bothered with the media craziness with Pirelli jersey. "Let those writing about jerseys go and write, this was not a fashion show," said Kisekka then. FUFA defied the advise of CECAFA secretary Hassan Haji not to wear the jerseys as it would cost them a heavy fine, but FUFA insisted it was okay. FUFA can get 11 sets of uniform in the CAF fine. Cranes promoters Euromarkint are also upset with mistakes made by FUFA. Ends.
